1. Love of a girl (Lynnie) with developmental disability for an African American deaf mute man (Homan)
2. Love of a girl for her daughter she only held on the day the baby was borned
3. Love of an elderly lady (Martha) who have always wanted children but couldn't for a baby girl (later named Julia) left to her on one stormy night.
After the stormy night at which Lynnie had to leave the baby girl in the hands of Martha, the story breaks off to elaborate on the development of each character and their journeys.
Martha passed on after doing a brilliant job mothering Julia until her adulthood.
Lynnie eventually reunited with Homan.
and
Julia too, finally, found her way to her birth mother in the end.
